22. March - 3. April 2005
Artist's Talk:  Saturday, 2. April um 18 uhr
Finissage: Sunday 3. April um 19 uhr

Bootlab : Raum 3
Ziegelstrasse 20, 10117 Berlin-Mitte
S-Bahnhof Oranienburger Strasse
030 263 29577

Tuesdays - Saturdays, 12 - 18 uhr
Sundays, 14 - 20 uhr

For the next two weeks, we are pleased to present two single-channel video works
video, site-specific installation and performative practice as a response to the
psychic dimension of institutional spaces. For this installation, the artist has
chosen to exhibit her work in the intermediate zones of the lab. On one end of
the entrance hallway the work An Installation (2002) is screened as a digital
"slide" projection. The artist writes, "The image is frozen and lifeless. Time
has been brought to a grinding halt. The environment is institution-like,
colorless and empty with extremely bright light. The body is of a person who has
lost her identity and has merged with the environment in order to hide from the
world." Soldier on Duty (2004) is shown on a monitor in the men's lavatory. It
is a work which reveals the sexual imaginary perpetuated within contemporary
militaristic practice. Looped footage of an armed officer has been edited with
an entirely different, appropriated soundtrack.

The program for the artist's talk will include a screening of Who is afraid of
red, yellow and blue?, Two Words, and a introduction to the artist's
site-specific installation and performance work.

been shown at the Arnesinga Art Museum (Hveragerdi), the Reykjavik Art Museum,
Associazione artistico culturale ricreativa (Monfalcone, Italy), as well as in a
recent collaboration with the band Ulpa. She has studied at the Royal Danish
Academy of Fine Art, Reykjavik School of Art, and received her Bachelor of Fine
Art from the Iceland Academy of the Arts in 2004.

This screening is part of an ongoing series of film and video events curated by
Alena Williams, Ph. D. candidate in twentieth-century art and theory at Columbia
University in New York. She is currently in residence at Bootlab e.v. with a
grant funded by the Alexander von Humboldt Stiftung.
