<-- back UPCOMING FINAL EXHIBITION IN RAUM 3 SPRING/SUMMER VIDEO SERIES Ziegelstrasse 20, 10117 Berlin-Mitte ============================ TONI CRABB 7 steps 6 legs: video & wait in drawing ============================ 16.- 21. AUGUST 2005 We are pleased to present a recent work by Toni Crabb, a Barcelona-based artist, who is primarily working in drawing, but who uses video as a means of exploring the temporal aspects of line. Over the period of six months last year, she made a documentation of butterflies in a tropical arboretum located in Empuriabrava, Spain. Although the resulting video depicts the perfect moment of transformation when a butterfly emerges from its chrysalis, the sketchbook of drawings that she produced while waiting for the butterflies to emerge, represents a significant study of the metaphorical implications of waiting and expectation. The soundtrack of the piece is an interpretation by the performance group Discoteca Flaming Star of Patti Smith's "Fireflies"-- a song that Crabb describes as kind of "countdown, steps." For her, the drawings and the soundtrack represent a wandering towards and away from the literal subject of the video; it is intended to introduce a kind of seriality critically linked to the event's unfolding. Both the video and the drawings will be on view until Sunday, 21. August. Toni Crabb is a Zimbabwean artist based in Barcelona. Crabb received her degree Delta in Harare. This exhibition represents the final installment of IN ABSENTIA, a 2005 spring/summer film and video series curated by Alena Williams. ============================ CONTACT AND HOURS ============================ Raum 3, Ziegelstrasse 20, 10117 Berlin-Mitte (S-Bhf Oranienburger Strasse) Mo-Sa: 14-18 Uhr, So: 16-20 Uhr T: +49 (0)30 26329577 M: +49 (0)176 235 949 26 http://www.bootlab.org/raum3 Raum 3 is the project space of Bootlab e.V., a non-profit organization, which hosts a number of groups and individuals working on media related projects.
