Fran Ilich, 39 min, Mexico DF 2005 (with Sol-Ho, Diana Weis, Adonay Cabrera, Luis Martignon, Blas Valdez y Tania Molina, among other actors) A soap opera homage to Jean-Luc Godard. based on a real incident, the in the north of Mexico who finds her brother 20 something years after being kidnapped by the military during the urban guerrila 'dirty war' of the seventies. The whole series consists of 13 episodes of 3 minutes mixing sci-fi with traditional melodrama, and the Brazilian music of re:comb where Esmeralda slowly discovers the complexities of politics and life in Mexico City. A telenovela series about spies and political activity, the project was called Telenouvelle Vague and it's a mix between soap operas and Godard. ---- Fran Ilich is a writer, filmmaker and media artist based in Tijuana and Mexico City. His work addresses the pop and the political in contemporary global society while experimenting with narrative structures. Ilich has lectured, exhibited and participated in events throughout Europe, the Americas and Africa on political activism, digital aesthetics and narrative structure. His novels, Metro-Pop and Tekno Guerilla, have become cult classics in Mexico. Ilich co-organized the BorderHack events on the border between the USA and Mexico. He is a founder and moderator of Nettime-Latino.
